Starfield’s New Atlantis is chock full of secrets and little known facts.
At first glance, New Atlantis, the capital of the United Colonies, looks like a utopian paradise. Even if its builders probably forgot what happened to the city that gave it its name. This bright city is where the story takes you next in Starfield. After you leave the mining base on Vectera, but you can go anywhere else you want.
There is more to New Atlantis than meets the eye, from the complicated bureaucratic processes of its government to The Well’s hidden underbelly. Here are some features and secrets about New Atlantis that you might not have seen. If you were just looking at the city’s fancy front or there on business.
Argos Extractors Office
In real life, going to a company’s main office isn’t usually a big deal. The same is true in Starfield, but if you take the lift to the right floor in the Valberg Building. You can see your old bosses and even report the pirate attack on Vectera.
This small detail really helps New Atlantis feel like a capital city where any of the settled systems’ big companies can be found. It also makes your job with Argos feel like more than just the beginning of the game. Also, and this may be even more important, the office proudly shows some rare resources that are just waiting to be taken by a handsome Spacefarer like you.
Jemison’s Namesake
The map of the game shows that Alpha Centauri is one of the closest solar systems to Earth. This is where New Atlantis is located. You may have noticed that the planet Gagarin is named after the first cosmonaut. The other planets in the system are also named after different real-life scientists.
Among these is Jemison, whose daughter Mae Jemison was the first African American woman to go into space in 1992. From there, she played Lieutenant Palmer in an episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation in 1993, becoming the first of many pilots to appear on the show.
The Hunter’s Haunt
New Atlantis’s Viewport is one of the first places you’ll find. It’s a bar in the spaceport area where you can get drinks, tasks, or clear your bounty. It also has a lot of possible crew members or followers, both named and nameless. That you can use to fill your ships and outposts. One of these stands out: The Hunter.
The Hunter is a mysterious figure that lurks in the back of the bar. You can talk to him, but it won’t tell you much more about him. Whoever or whatever The Hunter is, he seems smart and dangerous, and even though he seems calm. You’ll want to avoid running into him in the wrong situation.
Steal From ATMs
It’s not cheap to explore space, which is why many of the settled systems work in more normal fields, like shopping, hospitality, and running casinos in zero gravity. Since these choices aren’t very appealing, you might occasionally look for ways to make extra money while shopping in New Atlantis’ commercial area.
Spacefarers who like to stay hidden will find that the city’s ATMs can be opened by people who can pick advanced locks or higher. Since there are many of these machines spread out across the city. You can take what’s inside them as long as you don’t get caught picking the locks. It’s so gone that GalBank won’t even notice!
The Lodge’s Secret Exit
Constellation’s main office is in the Lodge, which is in a quiet part of the city. Even though Constellation is an explorer’s club, the Lodge is a safe place that you can only get to with the Chronomark watch Barrett gave you. It also has a fully stocked workshop where you can improve all of your gear.
When you go downstairs in the building, you’ll find this workshop and a second exit that, presumably, is only for emergencies and goes through the pipes before coming out in The Well. Even stranger is the fact that Cora Coe, daughter of Constellation member Sam Coe, has her bedroom in this basic basement level. She probably did this after annoying Sarah.
Helena Chambers: Space Karen
Helena Chambers is the former administrator of United Colonies Starstation RE-939, a civilian research station that was taken over by Va’Ruun fanatics. She can first be seen in the New Atlantis spaceport, having fled the attack on a shuttle after leaving the station’s residents to save her own life.
Her selfishness comes back to bite her when she doesn’t follow UC protocol for evacuation and gets hurt by the system she used to control others. MAST takes away her power because of this. Many people might think that’s the end of Chambers’ story, but she has to get a job at Terrabrew. Where she still threatens anyone who comes near her, even though she doesn’t have as much power.
Back Door To House Va’Ruun
Now that the group has gone into hiding and the snake god’s fanatics are wreaking havoc across the galaxy, the House Va’Ruun embassy in Doodle Cricket has been left empty. It is close to the Mast Building and is falling apart, which is different from its well-kept surroundings.
The embassy seems like a sign of some classic Bethesda cut material, since you can’t get to the front door. It was probably meant to have its own full questline. No matter if this is true or not, the embassy can be reached. But only as part of the UC Vanguard quest Friends Like These. If you sneak in through a door near the GalBank building, you can check out the overgrown inside of the empty embassy and learn about this strange group for yourself.
Loot For Saanvi
Following the UC Vanguard questline has benefits, and becoming a citizen is one of the most important ones. After you become a citizen of UC, you can buy land in the capital city and live there. There is an apartment in The Well that you can buy for 30,000 credits. Which is the bottom of the housing ladder.
You can get to the balcony through some parkour moves even if you don’t own the apartment. From there, you can drop to some pipes. That lead to a vent that opens into a secret room full of loot. It is left with a slate that says “For Saanvi,” which means that the UC will be looking for the loot, which is theirs. You’ll teach both the UC and the Saanvi a useful lesson by taking it (free loot is free loot, after all).
