Since being accorded the Test status, the Bangladesh team has moved very far. Over time, they have uncovered many a budding batsman who have always made the country proud in international circles. This article will focus on some notable batsmen who contributed a lot to the Bangladeshi cricket so far.

Tamim Iqbal  

According to the world cricket news today, Tamim Iqbal is one of the best opening batsman that Bangladesh had ever seen. He started playing for his country team at the age of eighteen and scored a stunning hundred in his first match against Sri Lanka. Since then he has remained constant at the top of the Bangladesh batting lineup.

At present, Tamim leads Bangladesh’s top scorers at over 9,000 runs in ODI cricket. Consistency to have big hundreds is an indispensable asset of Bangladesh. His best ones include 158 versus Pakistan, 126 vs. India, and 128 against Sri Lanka. During his prime, Tamim was one of the best ten ODI players worldwide.

He is also the basis of Bangladesh’s batting in Tests. He had a score of 95 runs and was part of their legendary success when they became the first team from West Indies to beat England in a test match. The highest individual score by a Bangladeshi player so far was achieved by Tamim when he scored 230 against West Indies in 2013.

At 30 years old, Tamim is still playing for Bangladesh and he’s still a bankable one. He is a valuable member of the team in all forms because of his experience and the attributes of good leaders. Tamim will be counted among the biggest stars in Bangladesh since he has over 10,000 international runs.  

Mushfiqur Rahim  

Another contemporary hero of the Bangladesh cricket team is known as Mushfiqur Rahim often regarded as the best wicketkeeper-batsman Bangladesh has brought. Since he began in 2005, Mushfiqur has remained in the middle order in all formats.

Mushfiqur remains one of few cricketers able to record tons in all three versions of cricket. With a knock of 203 not against of Lanka in 2013 still holds as the highest individual test score by a Bangladeshi. He has his best of 125 runs not out in ODIs vs Zimbabwe.

Unlike his batting feats, Mushfiqur is also a prolific wicketkeeper who has taken more than four hundred international catches. However, he is also a fantastic player with the gloves and the bat, which makes him an absolute treasure to the team. At 30 years old, Mushfiqur is still leading the pack and establishing highs for the side.

Mushfiqur too captained Bangladesh, though for sometime, and took part in the team that went up to No 6 position in the ICC Test standings (in 2021). His extensive experience coupled with the big match temperament makes him one of the greatest cricketers from Bangladesh.

Shakib Al Hasan  

Without doubt, the most proficient all-rounder Bangla Desh has ever had and national hero – Shakib Al Hasan. Shakib started his career in 2006 but since then he has dominated every format as batsman and bowler.

Shakib Al Hasan tops Bangladesh’s all-time record of over 6,000 international runs in Test cricket and limited overs too. Furthermore, he is among very few players who have 500 wickets and double of 5000 runs in international cricket.  

In 2008, he helped to give the country their first ever victory against India by scoring 64 & 66 for a match winning knocks respectively. In addition, he made two centuries in the 2011 World Cup that assisted Bangladesh to reach the quarterfinals for their maiden time.

Shakib’s bowl as a bowler is always with his left-hand orthodox. In 2009, Bangladesh won a test series away from home for the first time after he had taken 5 wickets vs WI. At one point, Shakib was also the top ranked ODI all-rounder.

In addition to his field endeavours, Shakib has had short stints of captaincy with Bangladesh. He made this country attain their highest ever Test ranking of sixth under his authority. Mahmudullah

Mahmudullah has scored four hundreds in Tests which includes brilliant 150 against West Indies in 2018. Likewise, Mahmudullah served as an interim captain at one point while he was still a senior player. He captains Bangladesh that recorded its first ever ODI series victory in New Zealand.

Soumya Sarkar

He is a strong middle-order batter known for scoring at a rapid speed and rescuing them frequently in tight spots. Yet on his day, he can be match winner.
