Let us, therefore, try to understand in this brief guide what in vitro insemination is, when to resort to this technique, and what steps to take.
More and more couples are forced to rely on IVF Treatment Pakistan to fulfill their desire to become parents.
What is in vitro insemination?
In vitro insemination, better known as in vitro fertilization (IVF), is based on the union, in the laboratory, of the egg and the sperm; the embryo, once fertilized, is then transferred to the mother’s uterus with the hope that it will take root to initiate a pregnancy.
The semen used can essentially come from:
1. partner;
2. donor.
The partner is generally used in the case of:
- Damage or removal of the fallopian tubes;
- Women with advanced endometriosis;
- The small number of oocytes.
A donor is, on the other hand, indispensable in the case of:
- suboptimal partner sperm quality;
- genetic disease;
- failure to fertilize your partner’s semen.
The steps of in vitro insemination
The in vitro artificial insemination steps include:
1. ovarian stimulation;
2. egg retrieval;
3. fertilization of eggs;
4. embryo culture in the laboratory;
5. implantation of the embryos in the mother’s uterus;
6. vitrification of the remaining embryos.
Ovarian stimulation lasting three weeks favors, through dedicated injections, the production of a more significant number of oocytes. The protocol is performed in specialized centers, and the timing depends on different factors, including the individual patient’s response.
The oocyte retrieval is performed if, following an ultrasound check, the following conditions exist:
- The follicles have reached the required size;
- The ovules are present in sufficient numbers.
The procedure lasts less than 30 minutes and is held in the operating room, and the woman is sedated to limit any possible discomfort.
The eggs are then fertilized using the IVF or ICSI technique. In the first case, the ovule is deposited on a plate for cell cultures and surrounded by spermatozoa which show greater motility; in the second one, instead, proceeds with the insertion, employing a cannula, of the male gametic cell into the female one.
This is followed by a period of close monitoring of the embryos; all elements considered unsuitable are discarded.
The embryos deemed valid are then transferred into the maternal uterus with a dedicated cannula; the procedure takes place in the operating room, but no anesthesia is administered to the patient (the treatment is, in fact, quick and painless).
On the other hand, the remaining embryos are subjected to vitrification to be able to use them, if necessary, during a second attempt (this is to avoid subsequent ovarian stimulation for the woman).
Conclusions
IVF Cost in Pakistan has allowed several couples to become parents. As we have seen, this technique diametrically shifts conception from inside the woman’s body to outside.
The embryos are inserted into the mother’s uterus only later with the hope that they will take root and the pregnancy will begin. The implant performed in the operating room does not expose the patient to any risk or danger.
However, the outcome of the treatment is not immediately known: the woman must wait 12 days before being able to undergo the pregnancy test; only then can one be certain that the in vitro insemination has been successful.
