Ranking Every RYNO Across The Ratchet and Clank Series

Posted by

But the RYNO has been a constant for the Lombax since the beginning, even though its arsenal changes from game to game. That is “Rip You A New One.” You already know what this little number does. It’s usually acquired late in the game or as a side quest reward, and it kills more enemies than any other gun. Here is a list of how each version of RYNO ranks.

The amazing amount of weapons you can use in the Ratchet and Clank games is well known. Big heroes need even bigger guns, and they need pretty crazy guns too. All of your enemies look nice, from the Combustor to the Thundersmack to the Negotiator to the Pixelizer and even the poor Sheepinator.

RYNO VI – All 4 One

The sixth version of RYNO is unfortunately the last one, and it’s only because of the game it’s in. It’s fun to play with a friend on the couch in Ratchet and Clank: All 4 One, but it’s not at all like other Ratchet games. Even the gunplay fits this bill. For a third-person shooter, the strange isometric controls and camera view that looks like it’s coming from above don’t work very well.

That’s a terrible shame, because the idea behind this RYNO (a prototype suit made by the story’s guide, Dr. Frumpus Croid) is really cool. All the other RYNOs are handheld devices, but this one is a huge mecha that you can ride around in. When you and your buddy do a team move, it really sets off some fireworks. Who knew that high-fives could be so bad for you? It was terrible because it had few bullets, an annoying way to unlock it (grinding collecting creatures), and that annoying game of origin.

RYNO II – Going Commando

There are many great improvements in Ratchet 2: Going Commando over the first game, but the RYNO II isn’t one of them. It will be given to you by a Gadgetron dealer on the empty planet Barlow very early in the game. But this doesn’t seem like it would help because you won’t be able to buy it until at least the second playthrough, because the bolt requirements are so high and the gun is so expensive.

What about after you bought it? Many of the guns you’ll have picked up, improved, and gotten used to by now are much better than this one. Yes, it can quickly wipe out whole screens of enemies. What guns in Going Commando can’t do that, though? Instead, pick the Zodiac or the Bouncer in Challenge Mode. I’m sorry, Gadgetron. Megacorp is better than you.

RYNO IV – Tools of Destruction

Tools of Destruction is the fifth major game, but its RYNO is number four. Because Deadlocked doesn’t have its own (since it’s set in an illegal deathmatch and doesn’t have any illegal weapons). The way you get the gun is pretty fun, and it makes Insomniac remember its Spyro days when it used to make collectathons. 13 holoplans are spread out across Polaris, and you need to return them all to the Smuggler, who is a sketchy character played by Wakko Warner.

They had the same problems with the RYNO IV as they did with the Going Commando. The last plan is in the Court of Azimuth, which is the door right before the game’s last boss. So, unless you want to play it again, you’ll have about 15 minutes to enjoy your brand-new RYNO before the main event ends. Plus, you’ll have spent all of your Raritanium on bettering your other weapons by then. So it won’t even work very well against the final boss. One Alpha Disruptor, none of RYNO.

RYNO – Ratchet and Clank

The first RYNO, the one that started it all. This type can be bought from a jerk on the streets of Blackwater City for a cool 150,000 bolts. That may seem like a lot, and because Ratchet 1 doesn’t give out many bolts, it is. But there are ways to get cash quickly. A few runs through Veldin will give you plenty of money, or you can cheat and phase through the wall of the hoverboard track to make as many money boxes as you want.

Also, make sure you have this bad boy with you because the final boss, Chairman Drek, is one of the hardest fights in the history of platform games. You only have eight maximum hit points (and that’s only if you spent even more money on health upgrades). And he has a huge health bar to deal with. Without the RYNO, things are going to get bad. It’s pretty much necessary, and I hope you don’t run out of bullets.

RYNO VII – Into the Nexus

The seventh RYNO makes me think that Insomniac looked at the RYNO in Tools of Destruction, thought it was a stupid idea to lock it behind the end of Eggy Car, and then did it right the second time. Even though Into the Nexus is only a short journey. It really makes you enjoy the few hours you have to spend with it.

You will be collecting RYNO plans again, this time for The Plumber, a recurring joke character in the show. Once it’s all put together, all you have to do is hold down the fire button to start causing real damage, set to Mussorgsky’s “A Night on Bald Mountain” for some strange but wonderful reason. Don’t waste your time with Fantasia.

RY3NO – Up Your Arsenal

For those who are interested, that means “Rip You 3 New Ones.” Even though this third version can’t be bought until after a second Challenge Mode game. It doesn’t hang out in front of the player like a carrot for ages before that. Before you even know it exists, you’re ready to spend the 3 million bolts needed to get it and just relax with its awesome weapons.

All of them must bow down to the power of the RY3NO. Any non-boss creature on screen can be killed with a single shot. Which makes getting some of the game’s skill points and prizes very easy. It does so much damage that even Dr. Nefarious gets hurt. Its finished shape is also known as the RYNOCIRATOR. How can you not agree with that?

RYNO V – A Crack in Time

The RYNO V is helped a lot by being in A Crack in Time. Which is one of the best games in the series. It has everything: beautiful graphics, an extremely powerful story, and top-notch puzzle design. The weapons are also pretty good. It’s normal for this RYNO to put together holo-plans. But this time you’re doing it in a great open-world space hub. While you search, why not turn on the radio on your ship? Because you can do that.

The sound this RYNO makes when shot is a lot like Into the Nexus. This time, Tchaikovsky is playing in the background, and there’s nothing better than destroying postgame boss Lord Vorselon with it while the brass instruments boom. Do you think he ever thought that his music would be used in this way?

RYNO 8 – Rift Apart

Rift-Apart-RYNO-Unlock.jpg (740×370)

RYNO 8 is the newest member of the RYNO family and easily takes the top spot. How? In a sense, by being a nostalgia gun. The main idea of Rift Apart is traveling between dimensions, and the RYNO 8 builds on this idea by creating wormholes that dirty, big items can fall through and hit enemies, flattening them. The best part? Most of them are things or characters from other PlayStation games.

Have you ever wished that Sly Cooper’s van could crush a pirate army? Or even Sly Cooper? The RYNO 8 will take care of you. Also, Jak and Daxter could show up, a Thunderjaw from Horizon could swoop in, or Sully’s plane from Uncharted could fly you to win. Nothing that shows up is anything but a huge love letter to the systems that made Ratchet and Clank famous, which is why it’s number one.
