Things to Do When Boring at Class

Each student gets bored in class at times. Instead of daydreaming or fidgeting with your phone during classes, try staying productive by learning some useful things to do when bored at class.

Keep a keen eye on your teacher and take note of any amusing habits they have – it can be entertaining to watch how many times they flick their hair or tap their foot! What to do when boring in Class

Check Your Emails

One effective way to pass time when bored in class is checking email – this will keep your mind focused when the lesson starts!

Another effective strategy when you find yourself bored at class is taking notes. Doing this will make it easier for you to remember lessons and prepare for exams more easily. If allowed during class time, snack on something healthy like granola bars for energy boost and better concentration.

Creative people might enjoy drawing or writing as another means to pass time without disturbing anyone else. Perhaps even engaging in a game of Tic-Tac-Toe would do.

Look Out the Window

Students may become bored in class for various reasons: being tired, having difficulty paying attention, experiencing learning differences or mental health conditions, or not liking the subject matter can all lead to boredom in the classroom and ultimately lead to low participation, daydreaming and reduced grades.

If your teacher permits, look out the window and observe what’s going on outside. Write a story based on what you observe. Create new language or symbols to signify different ideas. Or write an opinion piece about your school cafeteria menu!

If you own a notebook, practice writing using different handwriting styles – from cursive, all uppercase letters or lowercase, bubble letters and cursive. Try keeping note taking as interesting and entertaining as possible!

Address Your Binder

Even when trying to focus in class, you may become disengaged or distracted. While it might be tempting to let time pass unproductively by dozing off or daydreaming, you could also use this time productively.

Remove one section of your binder at regular intervals to clean and organize, addressing any papers that have become disorganized or are no longer required. Doing this helps maintain order within your binder.

If your teacher allows it, munching on some gum or candy may provide an energy boost and make class seem less tedious.

Read a Book

Reading books for school can often become tedious. To make the experience more pleasurable and productive, there are various techniques to make reading more pleasurable and beneficial.

Before beginning reading, take a moment to clear your mind and relax your muscles. This will allow you to better focus on and appreciate the book more fully.

An effective way to engage with an uninteresting book is to divide it up into manageable chunks. Doing this will give each chapter its own sense of achievement and keep you moving towards reaching the finish!

Annotate the text. This means taking notes in the margins of the book and underscoring important parts, which will keep you engaged while helping retain information for later reference.

Make a List

Writing lists can be an effective way to pass time when you’re feeling unmotivated in class. Jotting down ideas may help clear your head and leave you more prepared to focus on learning once class has ended.

Other creative activities to try when bored in class include writing a screenplay of one of your classmates or daydreaming about winning the lottery. Translate a passage from your textbook into another language or create a secret code with friends; try making calligraphy signatures. Or play tic-tac-toe with someone nearby, take notes on whatever topic your teacher is discussing (even if you don’t understand), write down notes about what was discussed (even if you don’t comprehend), but be sure to do it quietly so as not to disturb other students!
